Texas Scholarships

TX Scholarships are approved by the Odyssey of the Mind - Texas Board on a year-by-year basis.

  • Applicants must plan to attend a U.S. College as Freshmen in 2024-25.

  • Applicants must have been on a TX Odyssey of the Mind team at any age and presented a team solution at a regional tournament.

  • All OMers who are high school seniors qualify, whether or not they are on a team this year. They are not required to be competing in the State competition in 2024.

  • For 2024, the Budget Committee has allocated $2,500 that will be distributed to rewarded applicants by the Scholarship Committee. Any individual scholarship can be as high as $1,000.

Entries must be submitted online by March 22nd, 2024, at midnight. Submission details are included in the application. 

Winners will be announced after the State Awards and by personal notification.

National Scholarships

The national organization offers their own scholarships independently through Creative Opportunities Unlimited and Odyssey Alumni.

2. Creative Opportunities Unlimited (COU), the non-profit arm of Odyssey of the Mind has the following opportunities for high school seniors, younger high school students, and even undergrads:

a. Several Individual Scholarships and the Harold Kurtz Scholarship are available to high school seniors. Go to https://www.creativeopportunities.org/  and click on 'Scholarships + Housing Grants' for details. 

b. The Emerging Alumni Award recognizes high school sophomores and juniors who are currently competing or who have competed and are involved in giving back to Odyssey of the Mind in extraordinary ways.  Activities such as volunteering at tournaments, helping coach younger teams, and organizing Odyssey of the Mind at their school or community would qualify an applicant. Recipients will receive a $250 gift card and have an Odyssey of the Mind membership donated in their name to a program in need. The application deadline is February 15th, and recipients will be notified March 20th.  Go to https://www.creativeopportunities.org/ and click on 'Alumni + Booster' for details.

c. The Alumni Ambassador Award recognizes alumni who have competed, are between the ages of 18-25, and who are involved in giving back to Odyssey of the Mind in extraordinary ways. Activities such as judging, organizing tournaments, coaching teams, or coordinating activities with regional or state associations would qualify an applicant.  The recipient will represent and assist Creative Opportunities Unlimited and OdysseyAlumni at World Finals at the Creativity Festival, Opening and Closing Ceremonies, Graduation Ceremony, and other activities. The award will cover room and board at World Finals in the same accommodations as Odyssey of the Mind officials as well as a $250 travel stipend.  More details and instructions for application can be found at https://www.creativeopportunities.org/  Then click on 'Alumni + Booster' and scroll down.  The application deadline is February 15th, and recipients will be notified March 20th.

d. New in 2024: The Creative Scholarship Program is open to ALL high school seniors or Division IV members!

This year for the first time the application is a VIDEO submission where you can show that "beyond the box" thinking.  The SPIRIT OF THE PROBLEM: Be creative and have fun!
